Bokmal.

A friend offering a helping hand. Holding your books.

I ended up producing 30 Bokmals, 10 of each colour, for our annual Christmas market. I sold 29 out of 30. Since then, I have received several positive messages from people who purchased a bookend, showing pictures of how the Bokmal looks on their shelf. I also had a person at my part time job tell me he bought two and asked if I had more of them. This experience has motivated me to explore the idea of producing them in the future on a larger scale. The name Bokmal translates to bookmoth and is a Swedish word to describe a person who loves reading.

Bokmal sits quietly in a shelf or in a corner.

He is a silent friend who watch over your home.

When you leave, he stays. When you come

back he is there. He wants to help you.

Give him some books to hold.

That’s what he does the best.

The point of making the bookends was to give the design a purpose. In the end, they got a bigger job than just holding books. I have two in my apartment and they make the space feel lived in. They take up their own atmosphere while doing their jobs. They also play with the scale of the objects surrounding them. Taking them off my shelf now would leave the space lacking some type of presence. They become quiet friends keeping you company.
